Terms of use
Last updated October 15, 2026
These terms are between you and Where's the Snow at!? ("we", "us"). By using the site, you agree to them.
1. What the data is
The snow totals and weather readings come straight from automated stations run by other organizations (see where the data comes from). They are raw sensor numbers: not a forecast, not an avalanche bulletin, and not checked by a person. Sensors misread, stations go quiet, and readings can be late, missing or wrong.
The data belongs to the organizations that run the stations. We collect it, work out totals and show it with credit to each station's operator.
2. Your safety is your call
Backcountry travel can kill you. Nothing on this site tells you whether a slope, route or day is safe. Before you go, check the avalanche forecast at avalanche.ca, look at conditions yourself, and travel with the training and gear to deal with what you find.
You use this site at your own risk, and you are responsible for your own decisions in the mountains.
3. Accounts
You need to be 13 or older to create an account. Use your own email address, keep your password to yourself, and one account per person. You're responsible for what happens under your account. You can delete it at any time from your Account.
4. Fair use
Please don't:
- copy the site's data in bulk with scripts or scrapers, or resell it;
- send so many requests that it slows the site down for others;
- try to get into accounts or parts of the site that aren't yours;
- use the feedback form to send spam, abuse or anything illegal.
We may limit, suspend or close accounts that do these things.
5. Free and Pro
The site is free to use, and what's included for free may change. Pro, a paid plan, is coming. Before we charge anyone, we'll show the price and billing terms clearly, and you'll choose whether to sign up.
6. Feedback and ideas
We read everything you send us. If you suggest an idea, we may use it without owing you anything for it.
7. Our site
The site's design, code, name and logo are ours. The station data belongs to its operators, as described above. We may change, pause or stop any part of the site at any time, and we can't promise it will always be available.
8. No warranty, and limits on liability
The site and its data are provided "as is", without any promise that they are accurate, complete, current or available.
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any injury, death, loss or damage that comes from using the site or relying on its data, including decisions you make in the backcountry.
9. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If you keep using the site after that, you accept the new terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
